I saw so many people say that there should be a WWZ series. Some say like simply just a series. Some said it could be another spin-off to the film like the game and others said it should be a reboot. If there is ever another media of World War Z, do you think it should be another spin-off to the film like the game. Or do you think it should reboot the franchise?
My thoughts:
I feel like if there is ever another media of World War Z, it should be a spin-off to the film. Why?
The way the film ended made it seem like expanding the story seemed improbable as it shows that the vaccine seen in the end of it was being delivered across the world, making everyone not being attacked by any zombies. This is also one of the factor that contributed to the controversy of the film among the fanbase. However, the game would later fix the problem by establishing that more events from the original book happened and featuring the campaign mode where survivors are still vulnerable to zombie attack. While there is a throwable item Masking Gas Grenade, which releases cloud that prevents people from being attacked by zombies, the status of the vaccine remains unknown.
I believe that another WWZ media could redeem the controversial film. As of now, for long time since the release of the film, the majority of people do not like it due to its lack of similarity to the original novel. Later on, the video game was released and received positive response from fans, being considered more faithful to the book. However, they didn't seem to find it enough to redeem the film. Now, what about a series finally doing that? Finally expanding the story by covering most (if not all) of the stories from the book and managing to capture the essence of it.
One case I know where a follow-up received positive response after the predecessor film received negative reception is: The 1998 Godzilla film and the follow-up animated series Godzilla: The Series. The film became controversial among fans due to the fact that the titular monster lacked any characteristics from the original Japanese counterpart. Then months later, an animated series would be aired and then received positive reception from fans due to the new individual of Godzilla being given the same characteristics from the original counterpart, even from those who hated the film.
Now, what about the zombies?
Some of you probably feel like most of the time, the zombies would like mostly appear as a swarm and easily take many survivors down without many problems. But I feel like they could be utilized in a less silly way:
Initially, I was wondering how their presence could be reduced into less screen time yet impactful (or something like that). Then after looking at other media like 28 Days Later, The Last Of Us, Train To Busan, and All Of Us Are Dead, maybe a similar thing could be done to them. Let's say...
Most zombie attack scenes only feature small number of them (let's say something like a part where a civillian in a house is attacked by 1-3 zombies).
Swarms only occur in certain parts like the Battle of Yonkers and military-vs-zombies scenes.
Climbing zombies only occur for like 1-2 times only (I imagine this happening in like a new part about the Fall of Jerusalem and the last battle between military and zombies).
Conclusion: I think that if there is ever another WWZ media, it should be another spin-off to the film. Not only it could expand the story, but it could also redeem it after being controversial among fans for long time.
That's all for my thought. What do you think?
